Writers Gotta Write!

While my next release, FINDING HOPE, is in the hands of a very capable proofreader (I guess it needs a lot of proof), this writer’s gotta write. I thought it would be fun to write an MG or YA Fantasy.

Confession? I am a die-hard Harry Potter fan. I kept my daughter awake to make the midnight release parties. I have always wanted to build a world. In fact, I can’t imagine why anyone wouldn’t want to design their own world.

I have outlined a series called, Other Worlds. I call the first book, The Forgetting.¬† I want it to be a series for my children and grandchildren. My hope is my children’s children will be inspired to be the hero in their own journey, understand how one minute you can feel broken and the next joyful, and why good always triumphs over evil.

The characters start in a place of wonder. They think they are all that and a bag of chips. But when the story takes you to other worlds, they realize they have some personal changes they had better make, and some mountains to climb, if they want their tribe to survive.

Here is a little taste from the opening. What do you think?

Dear Blue Planet Leadership,

I am writing to express my sincerest apology for bringing about the extinction of the dinosaur. Although a letter is an antiquated form of communication on both our planets, I felt it safest to give my confession from a distance. I hope you deliver my plea to the appropriate leader.

I fully recognize that the extinction of the dinosaur prevented the children of the blue planet from benefitting from the companionship of some of the gentlest creatures in the known universe. And, although, in my experience, not all dinosaurs are meant to be domesticated, and I might have spared you some unpleasantness, there is no excuse for my behavior.

You may have benefitted from the extinction through the use of fossil fuels, but your foray into alternative means of transportation, including interplanetary movement has been delayed. Nevertheless, an apology is in order.

It is my sincerest hope that you can forgive me. Although I have returned to your planet multiple times, I cannot walk among you without carrying immense guilt and shame. I too mourn the loss.

Yours sincerely,

Ember of the Two Moons Tribe
